This is some booty. My employer recently "hired" a friend of his to work for free. Now this friend gets a whopping 5 days a week while everyone else gets cut to about 2 days a week.
I hear this is a pretty illegal thing and also what some people might refer to as a "dick move," but idunno. Pretty sure a place can't take hours from paid staff and give them to somebody who's working for free. It's also illegal for someone to be working that many hours for free in the first place. The whole scenario is garbage.
I work for a shitty t-shirt shop at a mall, but it gives me the money I need while being laid-back enough so that I can run the site. Maybe I should call mall management first?

You should definitely call management first.
Hired employees, on the clock, on payroll should have first priority for hours. Not some guy just working there for free.

You really think that dude is working for free? What if he's getting paid under the table?

Well either way, he still should talk to management about it.

Didn't say anything to management since the peeps who own the store are semi-friends and going through some hard times right now.
But I totally quit this past Saturday.
And then I set that bitch on fire!!!
